WHY RISE?

Parental incarceration affects millions of children across the United States, disrupting stability during critical stages of development.

• Over half of incarcerated individuals are parents, many with young children.

• Thousands of these children are under age five when a parent is imprisoned.

• Nearly 5 million children in the U.S. have experienced parental incarceration.

Without consistent support, these young people face increased barriers to academic success and long-term opportunity.RISE works to break down barriers for students affected by parental incarceration by connecting them with mentoring and educational opportunity.
