RISE Mentoring is about connecting healthy vibrant dependable adults with children whose circumstances may be unstable and/or limiting. RISE Mentoring aims to open up vistas and opportunities for our students to excite them about learning and living. RISE Mentors volunteer to spend time every month for a year with their mentee, and the majority choose to exceed that commitment. Our mentors offer guidance, support and encouragement aimed at developing the competence and confidence of their mentee, and have lots of fun!
Approximately 40% of RISE mentors maintain their mentee relationship for over two years. Mentees range in age from 7 to 16 and live primarily in Providence, Pawtucket and Central Falls although RISE supports children throughout the state. RISE has a rigorous screening process for interested mentors, provides training and carefully matches mentors with mentees based on interests. As well, RISE staff checks in regularly with both families and mentors to monitor the relationship and assist with problem solving when necessary. RISE sponsors monthly events for mentor/mentee pairs that range from rock climbing to non-violence training. Mentor and mentee outings can include participating in activities such as college tours, visiting museums, athletic games, getting outside together (bike riding, hiking, walking), career exploration activities and engagement in arts programs
Through participation in RISE Mentoring, both mentor and mentee are forever changed.
